Mul-T-Lock Master Key Systems for Condos and Associations

Mul-T-Lock MTL400, MTL600, MTL700 and MTL800 key platformsA&S Locksmith designs, installs and services Mul-T-Lock master key systems for condominiums, associations, property managers and builders along the Florida Gulf Coast, from Marco Island to Tallahassee. We are an authorized Mul-T-Lock dealer.

A master key system lets each resident’s key open only their own door, while management, maintenance and emergency keys open the doors they are meant to. One well-planned system replaces a ring of unrelated keys.

How a Master Key System Works

Every lock in the building has its own key that opens only that lock. Above that, higher-level keys are cut to open groups of locks, so each person carries one key that opens exactly the doors they need.

From the grand master key down to individual keys. Diagram from Mul-T-Lock’s official website.

  • Grand master key – opens every lock in the system; usually held by the association or property manager
  • Master key – opens one group of locks, such as a building, a floor or the maintenance areas
  • Sub-master key – an optional extra level for a smaller group inside a master group
  • Individual (change) key – opens a single unit, or a set of locks keyed alike

A Typical Condo Layout

Each unit has its own key. Maintenance holds a master key for the areas they service, and management holds a grand master that also opens the mechanical rooms, pool gates and storage. Common doors can be keyed so every resident’s key opens the front entrance and mail room.

Deadbolts, lever and knob cylinders, mortise and rim cylinders and padlocks can all be part of the same system.

New Master Key Systems

For new condo buildings and renovations we plan the system with the builder or board before the locks go in:

  • Unit doors, common areas, amenity rooms, mechanical rooms and gates on one system
  • Separate levels for residents, management, maintenance and vendors
  • Room to grow, so added doors and future phases fit the same system

Rekeying an Existing System

If keys have gone missing over the years, or nobody is sure who holds what, the building can be rekeyed onto a Mul-T-Lock master key system:

  • Existing locks rekeyed or replaced, door by door
  • A clean record of who holds which key
  • Ongoing service: added keys, lost-key rekeys and changes when staff or vendors change

Key Control

Mul-T-Lock keys are cut only with the proper authorization, so a key cannot simply be copied at a hardware store. That is what keeps a master key system secure after it is installed.

Mul-T-Lock Platforms We Offer

We offer all four Mul-T-Lock key platforms and Mul-T-Lock electronic access control, and we will recommend the one that fits the building:

  • MTL400 – Classic Pro
  • MTL600 – Interactive+
  • MTL700
  • MTL800 – MT5+
  • SMARTair – electronic access control for doors that need cards, fobs or audit trails instead of keys
